Background
In 1999 the United Nations Association (UNA) USA established the Adopt-A-Minefield (AAM) campaign as a way of engaging the general public in the landmine issue in the immediate aftermath of the Ottawa or Mine Ban Treaty.
In October 2001 the AAM campaign was set up in the UK as a programme of UNA-UK. Due to the ongoing need for fundraising for mine clearance and survivor assistance it was decided to set up an independent charity that would run the AAM campaign in the UK.
No More Landmines was established as a company in May 2005 and in August 2005 received charitable status from the Charity Commission. Today it continues to work in partnership with AAM to engage individuals, groups and companies to raise funds to work towards seeing an end to the impact of landmines and other unexploded weapons on innocent civilians.
