About No More Landmines
The Landmine Issue
No More Landmines is a UK based charity that raises funds to free communities throughout the world from the threat of unexploded weapons of war. Working in partnership we are able to direct resources to the areas in most need and where intervention produces the maximum benefit. In addition, to funding humanitarian de-mining, No More Landmines also supports Survivor Assistance and Mine Risk Education Programmes.
No More Landmines Mission Statement
No More Landmines helps and empowers communities around the world by removing the threat of landmines and unexploded weapons. We also provide support for survivors of landmine accidents to enable them to lead fulfilling lives.
Standards of Demining Operations
Mine Clearance activities are funded through the United Nations Development Program and in close cooperation with national mine action centres in support of local and international mine clearance organisations. In the case of Vietnam, where there is no national mine action centre currently, we support the activities of the Mines Advisory Group.
Mine clearance projects include the clearance of specific minefields or support for a mine clearance team over a two-month period. In either case, all projects are considered high or medium priority by a national mine action authority because they will make people safer and will be used for development once they have been cleared.
All mine clearance partners must work to international mine action standards set by the United Nations to ensure the safety of the deminers as well as the community once the site has been cleared.
The Impact of Deming
There is great progress being made. Since 2000 15 countries have seen an end to landmine accidents. Our work has enabled countless communities to regain their livelihoods and we have helped to provide a better future for many thousands of the estimated half a million landmine accident survivors.
But landmines and other unexploded weapons still directly and indirectly affect millions of people. We need your help to remove this evil threat to communities around the world and restore their hope for a future free of fear.
Please help to make a difference to innocent lives by donating here. It only costs £1 to clear a square metre of mine affected land and £50 would allow a child to walk again. Click here to donate now and save lives.
